Buying quality clothing for kids can feel like a challenge. Your child is a miniature explorer, constantly finding new adventures. You need something to keep them comfortable while holding up to their unending antics. While several brands are built for the long haul, few kids’ brands do it with style. If you’re looking for a children’s store with fabulous fashions suited for your daredevil, I would love to tell you all about Kodomo Boston. This sustainable store has modern options built for everyday discoveries.

About Kodomo in Boston

In 2016, owner Jasmine Punzalan decided it was time to leave behind the demanding corporate world. She went to work creating a mindful shop where families could find clothes they could feel good about. She chose the Japanese word for child, “kodomo,” as the name.

In the middle of setting up the first shop, she received the devastating news that she had Stage III breast cancer. Rather than step back from her mission, she decided to dive in headfirst. She used the shop as a distraction, adopting the zen attitude that she had learned from years of studying yoga to help her keep her calm.

Now, over six years later, the shop is thriving! The store has been highlighted again and again in the press and has received the title of the Best Children’s Store in Boston. It’s expanded to include home goods and women’s clothing. And while the shop might stay busy, they’ve never stopped their dedication to ethical, slow fashion.

All the items have been produced responsibly. The store also hosts drives and will contribute some of their profits throughout the year to charity. The store has two different locations across the Boston area. You can visit them at 579 Tremont Street or 70 Charles Street.

Products

Kodomo specializes in slow fashion starting from infancy. The store aims to give you stylish, out-of-the-ordinary clothing your child will want to wear. Walking through the doors, you’ll find items from brands such as Meri Meri, Belle Enfant, Kid Made Modern, Maison Deux, Djeco, and more. They put out seasonal lookbooks and supply gift guides to make it a breeze to find items you absolutely adore. Because Kodomo pledges only to sell ethically-made products, you can shop without guilt.

You can buy onesies, jumpsuits, outerwear, and shoes in the baby section. Their one-piece outfits will give your child a cozy option to stay warm amid even the coldest Boston winters. You can stock up on onesies with dainty patterns and easy snap-closures. Pair these with soft, striped leggings and comfortable first-walker shoes, and you’ll have the perfect outfit for your family’s day-to-day activities.

As your child gets older, they’ll have even more options. The store’s dress selection is exceptional, from bold stripes and plaids to soft ruffles. Dress it up with a pink headband, or make it a little more casual with some metallic sneakers. The shop sells wonderfully feminine pieces such as heart sweaters and floral hoodies. Still, they balance the section out with neutrally-colored henleys and navy blue tie-dyes. Boys can access everyday styles, such as dino-themed t-shirts and character hoodies. You’ll also be able to snag some button-ups and warm knits for nicer events. Their bottoms will prepare your child for everything from weddings to playdates in the park.

The store has a teens’ section that even the pickiest tweens will adore. You can buy velvet dresses, cropped sweaters, bleached jeans, and designer tees. The items have all been designed to last for years, giving your teen modern options they won’t mind wearing again and again.

While you’re shopping, make sure you check out their women’s clothing! The section has some of the latest trends, guaranteeing you’ll never feel like an afterthought. Their knits are lusciously soft, while their skirts won’t leave you feeling overly confined. The jeans selection is one of the best, offering everything from fashionable flares to dark-cropped styles.

Specialty

Kodomo has everything you need to keep your child entertained for hours. Their toy selection ranges from vintage-inspired crafts to modern Montessori products. You can brighten your nursery with rainbow stacking toys or keep it all curated with lightly tinted wooden lacing sets. The expansive craft section features adorable paper dolls, paintable dog figures, and Boston-themed coloring books.

Their block sets let your child build developmental skills, and their wooden houses let them create an entire village, making it the perfect option for imaginative play. Your family will want to read their books again and again as they teach them about topics such as math, recycling, and historical features. You’ll also be able to find popular authors such as Mo Willems and Eric Carle.

If you need to redecorate your child’s room, check out their home goods section! The store sells soft, child-friendly duvets that will match any theme. You’ll be able to buy knit blankets and cozy sheets. Finish off the bedding with their adorable pillows that will pull it all together. The shop sells minimalist furniture such as architect’s desks and play tables. You can buy accents such as their mushroom-themed nightlights and their balloon-shaped mirror sets. Kodomo will also help you stay organized with its cute floral bins and fun, rolling toy chest.
