I did some research in local mom groups (totaling well over 5,000 mamas) before deciding to put together this post, and I found a LOT of moms recommending Atrius Health’s Harvard Vanguard OBGYN. Most moms noted that they felt listened to and respected throughout pregnancy and postpartum and that they felt well-cared for during their deliveries.

I really appreciate that the practice has convenient locations to make quality healthcare more accessible to everyone in the Boston and Metro West area. With 14 offices, Atrius Health’s Harvard Vanguard OBGYNs and certified midwives are accessible to women all across Boston and the Greater Boston area, working to provide women with the best possible care, from preconception counseling to labor and delivery. Offices include Burlington, Cambridge, Chelmsford, Chestnut Hill-West Roxbury, Concord, Copley, Dedham, Kenmore, Medford, Norwood, Post Office Square, Quincy, Somerville, Watertown, and Wellesley.

We all know that a skilled and compassionate team of medical professionals can go a long way in providing a positive experience during pregnancy, and Atrius Health is worth looking into if you’re looking for a provider for your pregnancy. Even if you’re just looking for primary gynecological care, they could be the right choice for you, as the providers are committed to making it easier for women to stay healthy through all stages of life. From adolescence to pregnancy to post-menopause, they’ve got you covered.

Harvard Vanguard OBGYN Wellesley

The Wellesley office, located at 230 Worcester Street, Wellesley, MA 02481, has served women in Wellesley, Newton, Natick, Needham, Framingham, and other nearby cities since 1980. Harvard Vanguard OBGYN Wellesley has urgent care, pharmacy, imaging services, and a lab. Most families being seen at this location opt to give birth at Newton-Wellesley Hospital or Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (11 Harvard Vanguard OBGYNs practice out of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and 14 OBGYNs practice out of Newton-Wellesley Hospital).

One of the things that makes Harvard Vanguard OBGYN unique is that they’re the only practice at Newton-Wellesley Hospital that offers the option to deliver with midwives, which is a big plus in my book (every pregnant person deserves options!). The Newton team includes 12 certified nurse-midwives (CNMs), who collaborate with physicians to provide comprehensive prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum care, as well as ongoing health education and routine gynecological services.

Midwives focus on each person’s unique physical, social, and emotional needs throughout pregnancy and act as personalized birth coaches during labor and delivery. They tend to be better equipped than OBGYNs are to support women in natural, unmedicated childbirth, but that doesn’t mean they’re helpful for ONLY women who desire natural childbirth. Midwives also offer a variety of options for pain relief during labor and delivery, including hands-on relaxation methods, hydrotherapy, and typical pharmacological options (epidural, nitrous oxide, etc.).

That said, certain patients (especially those who experience complications during their pregnancies) require more specialized care than midwives can provide. Harvard Vanguard OBGYN maternal-fetal medicine specialists offer consultations and care for high-risk pregnancies, ultrasound and lab services, advanced fetal-risk screenings, genetic testing and counseling, and access to hospital-based specialists for interventional treatments and procedures where necessary. (This is true of many of the practices, not just Wellesley!)

Additional Wellesley Services

Routine preventative gynecological care includes care pap smears, breast exams, and mammography. At the Wellesley location, doctors provide compassionate, expert fertility care to help couples achieve a healthy, viable pregnancy through the latest technological innovations. Reproductive services include ovulation induction, IUI, IVF, donor insemination, and fertility preservation. Maternal-fetal medicine and reproductive surgery services are also available. You can learn more about reproductive health services on their website.

Breastfeeding Support

For parents hoping to breastfeed, Atrius Health offers support through several care providers, including several nurses on staff who are certified lactation consultants (CLCs) or International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs). They can work with you on everything from ensuring your little one is getting enough milk to troubleshooting common problems such as clogged ducts or sore nipples. Some of these providers work in the same offices as Harvard Vanguard OBGYN, while others are simply part of the Atrius Health network.
