It’s fairly rare that I cover events these days, but when Maggie contacted me about covering her daughter’s lemonade themed birthday party with a cake smash, I couldn’t say no. After all, she told me there would be a petting zoo for the kids. I’m a sucker for animals. Plus, a first birthday party with a lemonade theme? I knew it was going to be cute.
It turns out that I was right—everything about it was adorable! Every detail, from set-up to favors to Ellie’s little dress was perfectly coordinated and in line with the party’s overall theme. Lemon decorations were everywhere, and I seriously couldn’t get enough of it. Maggie went all out, and it showed. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen DIY party decorations turn out so well! The petting zoo was just the cherry (ahem, lemon) on top. The kids all had a blast, and I don’t even think I heard any of the crying that usually occurs at young children’s birthday parties.
The highlight of the party, of course, was the cake smash. It turned out that it wasn’t much of a smash; the newly one-year-old Ellie was so neat that she didn’t even get her lemony dress messy! Her big sister, like any good sister, was happy to help, of course. 🙂 Messy cake smashes are a ton of fun, but this “civilized” cake tasting was no less full of joy.
I love celebrating milestones, and I’m so grateful Maggie trusted me with her daughter’s birthday party! Enjoy the pictures!
